It's about time. Congratulations to all involved with DTY (let's not forget Ernie Watts). Can't wait to hear KE in Princeton on the 17th.

Yes, indeed! A big shout out to Jim Gailloreto for his great arrangements of "My One and Only Love" and "Nancy With the Laughing Face."

As we recall, Jim was doing some string arrangements for Kurt when this project was first conceived for the Chicago Jazz Festival way back in 2006. And things evolved from there....

Just remembered this from Neil Tesser's article last week.

Kurt is the first male artist to win the Grammy for Best Vocal Jazz Album since 1993 when it was awarded to Bobby McFerrin.

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
The Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album has been presented since 1977. Until 2001 this award was titled the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance. From 1981 to 1991 (except for 1985) this category was presented as separate awards for Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Female and Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Male.

Wikipedia has the full list of winners by year for Best Vocal Jazz Album.

Saw the live show in Iowa City, 3 days after the Lincoln Center recording, and knew it was something special. The project is an undeniable masterpiece, bringing so much individuality and artistry to the Holy Grail of romantic jazz. It's a true joy to hear the essence of the original artists reverently presented through such intensely personal interpretations and arrangements. I thought I knew the original recordings very well, but I now hear them as not only the amazing first-take wonders they are, but also as the reference point for something I didn't think was possible - the perfect storm of showcase and tribute. Kurt and Laurence, while I agree with most other comments here that your Grammy was long overdue, I see Dedicated to You as a singular achievement of sensitivity, respect and grace, standing out from your previous ventures as a cohesive Work of Art. The recording's (hopefully blossoming) commercial success, while well-deserved, isn't necessary to prove its value.

Thanks so much for pouring so much of yourselves into this project. You've raised the bar quite a bit. Eagerly awaiting whatever's next.

All I can say is it's about time!

Great job to the whole crew on Dedicated To You. It is truly a work of art.

Just so you know when I see the band in March at the GM I'm buying them all round! Laughing

lavoz85, we understand from the GRAMMY folks that the podcast *will* be available for 30 days on grammy.com. Apparently they haven't posted it yet -- they're kinda busy at the moment. Wink We'll let everybody here know when it's up.

The podcast doesn't seem to be on yet, but the duet with Lalah Hathaway is on Youtube.

Kurt, i forgot:
You were a great host at the Grammy Awards, so elegant and nice.
I really hope that you still will meet your fans after performances
so we can talk a little after Passion World at Lincoln Center in May.
Once again, congratulations.
Best
